Upholstered in a quality damask fabric, the mattress features a traditional hand tufted finish that ensures the white fibre fillings are held securely in place. The hand tufting process involves a series of tapes being passed through the mattress at regular intervals; these are then secured on each side with a cotton tuft. The core of the mattress consists of a 12.5-gauge open coil spring interior; one of the firmest spring systems used in mattress manufacturing in the UK. The springs are hourglass shaped and set out in rows running from head to toe and connected by a series of spiral wires, known as helical wires. A heavy gauge rod-edge surrounds the perimeter of the spring unit. This strengthens the mattress border and provides edge-to-edge support across its width.
