Making Space in an Increasingly Smaller World – the Brand Story behind MySmallSpace
A few years ago, I downsized from a large family home in the countryside to a not so large 1-bed apartment in London. I was one of the many people who end up divorced in their 40s and living alone. But rather than seeing it as a traumatic upheaval, I saw it as a cathartic experience and ditched all my belongings and started from scratch. That in theory should have made life easier; as trying to fit years of accumulated belongings into a 1-bed apartment would have taken the skills of Houdini!
But trying to find furniture that fit into a small apartment, leaving space to move around, took not hours, but days and days of searching. When summer came, I decided that I would utilise the outside terrace space, which was long and thin, but a very usable space, or so I thought! After searching again for days looking at the options across at least 30 websites, I decided there had to be another option. There wasn’t…. until now.
Burning hours searching for furniture for my small London home was the catalyst for MySmallSpace.
More and more people are living in smaller and smaller homes, not just due to downsizing, but it is often the only affordable option. Tiny homes and building smaller homes have become an increasing development trend around the world.
